Hyperpigmentation is one of the most common aesthetic skin conditions. It arises from an overproduction of the skin pigment melanin, triggered by UV radiation, inflammation, or hormonal factors. For a long time, research focused on inhibiting tyrosinase, the key enzymatic step in melanin synthesis. A new focus has shifted to the signaling pathways that precede melanin production.
Neurolight
Neurolight® is an extract from the sea lily (Pancratium maritimum). Unlike conventional depigmenting agents, Neurolight® does not directly interfere with pigment formation, but rather modulates the signaling pathways that stimulate melanocytes to produce pigment. In particular, Neurolight® inhibits the release of endothelin-1, a messenger substance released by UV-stressed skin cells (keratinocytes) that can trigger melanin overproduction. At the same time, the extract reduces neuronal hyperexcitability in the skin, which is increasingly associated with hyperpigmentation, especially in cases of stress-related imbalances. Clinical studies show that an eight-week course of Neurolight® results in a significant lightening of localized pigment spots (up to -12%). The skin appears more even.
This effect is supported by Mel[o]stem™, which contains the antioxidant and pigment-regulating flavonoid naringenin in the form of its 7-O-glucoside prunin. Naringenin also modulates melanin synthesis and protects the melanocyte environment. The combination of Neurolight® and Mel[o]stem™ enables an additive effect at multiple levels of pigment regulation, from neuronal signaling to the cellular stress response.
