Free oxygen radicals, environmental stressors, UV light, and screen light contribute significantly to the aging of the eye area. The resulting free radicals activate pro-inflammatory signaling pathways such as NF-κB, leading to increased release of IL-6 and TNF-α, key mediators of chronic micro-inflammation (inflammaging). O3 Bright Eyes Cream contains an antioxidant oil complex of grapeseed and almond oils, as well as the botanical Kigelia extract.
An extract from parts of Kigelia africana, a traditionally used medicinal plant from West and Southern Africa, contains a variety of bioactive substances. To date, approximately 150 compounds have been identified, including iridoids, naphthoquinones, flavonoids, terpenes, and phenylethanol glycosides. Novel constituents with antioxidant and antimicrobial effects include verbascoside, verminoside, and pinnanatal. Plant extracts from the leaves, bark, fruits, and flowers of Kigelia africana have been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory properties, such as the inhibition of COX-1/COX-2, NF-κB, and TNF-α, as well as reduced activity of iNOS and nitric oxide. The secondary plant compounds verbascoside and verminoside are among those responsible for these effects. Verbascoside, in particular, has been shown to support the skin's own regeneration and re-epithelialization, e.g., in the treatment of dry, cracked skin. B. through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and fibroblast-activating properties observed in preclinical studies.
In cell studies, grapeseed oil shows a reduction in pro-inflammatory markers while simultaneously increasing endogenous antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD). Almond oil also has a barrier-stabilizing and skin-soothing effect.
